A question for women, and otherwise similarly mamalianly endowed peoples.

So, in the last day or two, my left nipple has started getting a dry spot to one side. The only reason I noticed, was at the same time, any time that dryness chafed on anything, the nipple screamed bloody murder at me. If estrogen has taught me anything, it's that estrogen takes your nipples and turns them to 11 (it's one more). Being a D-cup, it chafes on everything.

I've been putting dry skin lotion on it, and it seems to be okay for now (if angry and red), but any suggestions for speeding up the healing process, keeping the pain level down and keeping it from happening again?

Put a little antiobiotic ointment on it if it rubs raw, keep up the lotion, and if it gets unbearable stick a bandaid on your nipple until it heals.

Chances are it's caused by friction from either your shirt or a poorly made/worn out bra. Definitely get a new bra or if you don't wear one, get one.

That's prolly it. I tend to go braless, but also topless around the house. With roomies, I still go braless, but with a top. Three months of that prolly gave me the inflamed nipple.

Yeah, that would have done it. Keep putting lotion on it and buy a good, well-fitting bra. Run away from cheap dollar store ones.

This. While bras are generally less than fun, they have their uses ... protecting sensitive/ouchy nipples is one of them. Wear one daily for a week or two and see if the dryness is alleviated. (Keep using the lotion, too)

That sounds miserable!

The only times my nipples have bothered me have been breastfeeding-related. The usual solution for that is to apply lanolin. It's in the baby section at most stores, and the only size of tube they sell will last you pretty much forever. It'll also make wool waterproof, if for some reason you should feel the need.

There are hydrogel pads for chafing nipples too, but that's probably most useful if you're already near the point of bleeding. I really hope that's a rarity.

Thanks...it's not to the point of bleeding, just really inflammed, but I'll pick up some lanolin tomorrow. Thanks! I'm sure it's a rarity - I think it has to do with the fact that I tend to go braless, but now that I live with roomies, I don't go topless near as much.

I've had problems with really dry skin, so after showering I'd dab on crisco or some heavy duty oil, then a gauze pad and a bra. Should do you just fine :-)
