How did you get started creating comics of your own?

As if it wasn't obvious: Robotech. Back in the mid 80s, I loved the show, and when it finally went off the air, I picked up the whole run of comics, since we didn't have a VCR. I was starting to work on my own stories to tell, and I didn't think I had good enough grasp of description to get the image in my head across. So I began copying the comics, cause I figured I could DRAW what I wanted more than DESCRIBE what I wanted. After a few years, I stopped copying the comics, because I could draw them myself. I began drwing out my first comic, called "The Book of Xand" about 87 just for fun. Carrie showed up in that story as a security guard around 1989, and eventually moved into the Closetspace story I'd started working on about 1993. I'd managed to get in a good position with a local comic company, but that went badly. Very badly. So I just drew for myself until the web came around. There was an attempt in 1996 to make Closetspace as a TV show, which is where the scripts on my website sprang from. In 1997 we gave a shot at a webcomic. Another try in 2000, and finally it came out in 2002. Been running ever since. :)

Is there anything you miss about living as a guy?

Job security, mostly. While I don't get the whole "work twice as hard for half the pay" thing most women get, I've been fired from too many jobs for being trans and using the "wrong" restroom.

What has been the most difficult/stressful part of transitioning?

Jealousy. I'm not the most beautiful looking woman out there. In fact, I'm pretty ugly. I used to try and tell myself that SOMEONE had to transition into an ugly woman, and that someone just happened to be me. But the more I look in the mirror, the more I realize I'll never look anything like a woman, and that hurts. A lot.

What is your favorite thing about being a woman?

Being able to have a nice long meaningful conversation with another woman without being seen as a predator. It doesn't happen very much, because I'm often not accepted as another woman by most women, but when it happens, it's a wonderful feeling.

I don't read hardly any anymore. I keep up with Venus Envy (http://www.venusenvycomic.com) and my cousin's comic Buttersword (http://www.buttersword.com). What kind of books do you like to read?

I'm not much of a book reader anymore. I was when I was a kid, but about 15 or so, I stopped and started writing. I still read, though, mostly various weird little things that catch my eye.

I just finished a book on rejected books of the Bible, as well as a book with the texts of the Nag Hammadi library.

But at the same time, I also just finished reading an old kids book called "Searching for Shona" about a girl who swaps places with another girl in World War II Britain. It's totally a 6th grade reader, but a neat story. :D

Whats Carries day job?

As seen in http://www.dolari.net/cs/21.htm and http://www.dolari.net/cs/73.htm , Carrie works at Bricks Security. Mostly she monitors security systems and runs backup tapes, but when demand is high, she helps install Security Systems. She's still presenting as a man at work - but I do plan a storyline dealing with her coming out there.
