Saw Clan of the Cave Bear last night for the first time in 25 years. The Long Road Home is not a subconscious ripoff, but definately a subconscious homage.
Ive never seen that. Ive heard lots about it though maybe I should see it sometime
Im hopefully going to start finishing up my Wishworld chapter tomorrow. I am pretty sure I have worked out all the problems into something you will approve of :)
You're not just saying that to see me go LEO for joy, are you? I think the Wishworld concept is pure genius- Jenn caught it on the fat part of the bat with that idea. I have been hoping it would be updated for some time. It's too good a story arc to let languish.
oh yes it's totally brilliant an idea because you can do any kind of story with it no limits really. I had started this story for it about a year ago but I started working on my novel and that took all my time. My first draft for my novel is finished and this is a perfect moment to finish my story for wish. I actually am glad I took the time because now I think my chapter will be all the better for it.
as for going LEO for joy. I never heard that phrase before :)
Leapin' for joy. Having a good day. Excited. missing the pain boat. Waste space on the Angst Express. Grin abuse. full o' chuckle fixin's. Packin' happy. Haulin' hoo-ha. pumpin' smile. Cannin' pawpaws (regional). Et (ad nauseam) cetera.
Well then. Homages are completely alright. You could even pastiche or do an outright shout-out, quote entire sections or themes to honour the previous work. Those are all valid literary devices and none of them are rip-offs ; )
