"Hey, Jenn! So what's this 'Manpower' storyline I see on the CD?"
Well, lemme tell ya:
I worked on this comic for the now canceled Primer comic I was going to put out last year, but it will be the comic I produce after A Wish for Wings (or The Long Road Home, I haven't decided yet). It's mostly plotted out, the opening, many episodes, and an ending are done, but much of the last third of the story is still being plotted out.
Manpower is a story about a man named Bill who is pulled across the Galaxy against his will to fight in a guerrilla war against a fascist government. This monolithic government controls every aspect of their citizen's lives.
But what if the fascist government WORKS? What if there is no progress, but no regress? What if there's no innovation, but there is peace? There is no history, but there is permanence?
On the other hand, what if this war that Bill and others were drafted into, is not about ideology, but one man's cultural arrogance? If someone's idea of the perfect world was at odds with a peaceful, but sterile culture?
And what if your peace and permanence were built and based on something so horrific, that it could shake the foundations of your world as it stands? Do you search for truth and rediscover history? Or deny it and go on in ignorance? And do you dare even think of revealing that history, when the guerrilla war introduces new and terrifying ideas to your society?
And how do you make peace in all of this?

Mockup of the of the only city on the planet, Serbin (ignore that !(&%#%)# cutoff at the top of the spire).

Character work for Ral Ata Mithrae, a member of the Serbin High Command (with pictured logo).
