Did some work on Episode #17 (yes, I skipped #16, but I'll get back to it). Very happy withthe results. VERY happy.

Performed emergency motherboardpendectomy on computer. We're now using an even OLDER and slower motherboard - but it's the most stable one so far, so I'm hoping for the best. Seems that when a mtoherboard dies, teh FIRST symptom is a dying IDE controller.

Someone offered a nanny/maid job if I don't get the Wayport job. May take it even if I DO get the Wayport job. $50 a week and room and board in Austin.

Let's get a hold of Wayport and find out what's up....

Here's a thought in case Wayport doesn't pan out. Have you applied for any telemarketing jobs? I know, there's a special circle of Hell reserved for those people, but they're always hiring, they're not too picky about who they take, and the pay isn't bad. Also, one advantage you've got is that you sound very feminine over the phone. The first time we spoke, if you hadn't told me you were TG, I never would have guessed. Telemarketing might be worth considering, if only for the short term.

Maybe I'm a total killjoy ... but the first time I talked with Jenn on the phone I thought she sounded like a guy. Maybe it was an ebb tide in the sea of hormones for her; but whatever .... You're right though, there's always telemarketing ... and besides, how often do the vict -- er, the customers actually pay attention to the telemarketer's name?
And while I'm thinking of it, there's zillions of people looking for people who want to work at home from their computers or whatever, stuffing envelopes even ...
You might be on to something...!

I should also confess that I confused her for her roommate, Mario Hernandez, whose email she was usually using the first time I heard her on the phone.

OTOH, for someone you're only going to be communicating with for a few minutes and never again who probably didn't catch teh name anyway, does it matter?

The main concern I have is that it can get rather frustrating if you're on a losing streak.

OTTH, With something resembling income it should be possible to get back on medications that should make that a lot easier. Could this possibly be combined with the nanny/housekeeper offer?

Tried. With friend who already worked there. Didn't get it.

I was told I do not have a pleasant phone voice.

I'm a genderfuck, remember?

~attempts to remove foot from mouth~ Gosh Jenn, er ... :(
I'm sorry. I didn't mean to say anything to hurt ya ...

But I gotta disagree with whoever didn't like your phone voice. You have a perfectly wonderfully pleasant phone voice! Talking with you on the phone is great! you're no Marge Simpson. Your voice is clear, no discernable accent to this Yankee, etc. I would say to heck with the person who dismissed your phone voice, and try anyway. Who're they, anyway, I mean are they in charge of hiring people for a telemarketer or something?

I wonder if a local university is hiring anywhere. I useta find summer jobs galore on campus when I was at school ... after all, their workforce evaporates in June. I dunno. Just a thought.

Y'know, my mom's working more than full-time with her own little business of house-, plant-, and pet-sitting. She takes care of a decently healthy elderly woman for two days, then goes to another place and cares for a lady there. Have you considered something like that? I mean, if you're looking at nanny/housekeeping, this would be somewhat mostly similar to what my mom's doing, and she has fun at it. Perhaps you can do house- or pet-sitting for people who're on vacation or something, like she does.

How are you at baking?

Oh -- we're having a thunderstorm! *hug* I know how you like 'em. Wish I could share it with ya.

I'm trying to convince Steve to fix up the camper trailer so we can camp while we travel ... he wants to take me to the Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota, and I'm trying to further convince him to be willing to take another week off from work so we can come down and find you. Imagine a caravan of one Neon towing a small camper and us! There's room in the Neon for a passenger .......

gack.

Well -- awrighty then. BUT I'll betcha other telemarketing types would hire ya. I'd hire you to answer my phones, fer cryin' out loud!

Considering that many corporations are hiring out their telemarketing work to people in India and Canada (where the accents are sometimes pronounced and it's difficult to even understand them!), I wonder about your friend.

We've had everyone from a person in Newfoundland to several people in India to numerous people in the Deep South call here trying to sell stuff ... people whose accents are so thick you need a knife to cut through them ...
and your friend there says you don't have what it takes?

"Piss on it," as my mom would say in her endearing way. Since you have absolutely nothing to lose, keep trying. You could even do TTY work (something I'd love to try).

so ... how are you at baking?

What pisses me off about moving everything to India, is that we're losing SO many jobs to out-of-country outsourcing, that we won't be able to BUY anything the corporations sell.
