You know what really honks me off?

When my dad hit 35 (1983), he had been laid off once. Otherwise, he'd worked great jobs, with great pay, and despite losing a house in a layoff, was already working on getting his third house with a great job he'd gotten in 1981, a year after the layoff.

When my mom hit 35 (1986), she was five years into a job that would end up being her career for the next twenty years, financially sound, two kids, and helped dad buy the house I was raised in.

I hit 35...and I've been unemployed more than half of my career-years, have never owned a house, lost two apartments (on my way to a third in a few days), and have never managed to keep any money I've tried to save.

What the hell Universe?
