Nov. 13th, 2012 05:21 pmOne of the weird quirks about the way I write is that I don't really write-write. I don't put words in sequence in my head. I have scenes and stories acted out in front of me, or characters come to me saying "I want to do this."
Sometimes they ask to do things outside of my experience or skills. A good example of that is when Carrie tries to play guitar. The moment she strums her guitar, she's out of my experience...and she freezes. I don't know how to play the guitar, therefore neither does she.
Usually we find ways around it. Do some quick research...ask a friend who can do what I can't. A frame of reference so I can keep going.
In working out that scene from this morning,I hit that wall. One character is trying to talk to another and suss out some misunderstandings. I expected her to talk it out when in the middle of the conversation she stops and says.... "No. I need to SHOW you this." And that's where it freezes...I have no experience in what she's trying to show, therefore no way of knowing what needs to be shown.
Looks like some research is in order.
Funny thing is...from the perspective of the other character, the reactions are crystal clear and hilarious. Whatever she's seeing, it's blowing her mind.XD
