My father served in Vietnam, and has a remarkably good outlook on things, considering. He always talks about having real Thai food in Vietnam with a family who hosted his group while he was there. Talks about areas that he was stationed and how beautiful it was, there. Mentioned a few firefights he was in, especailly one where he was awarded a Medal of Valor. But always in very good terms. He's even mentioned that he'd like to go back and visit one day.
I learned something about him today, and his time in Vietnam. He wouldn't tell me dfirectly, told me to go read a letter.
I know now, that if that happened to me - I would most likely be dead of a gunshot wound to the mouth...the fact that he's alive to this day speaks volumes. The fact that he wants to go back to visit is unbelievable.
I have a new respect for my dad, today.
