Actually, The Omega Man is one of my favorite movies. From the Cathedral Funk soundtrack to killer lines such as "You're evil, Robert...can't you see...I'm part of the family now." I dig last man on earth stories, like The Stand and Logan's Run. One day, I'm gonna rewrite and remake Logan's Run - it's a good story, but seen through bad 70s soundtrack/costume design, it's really silly. When I become a world famous movie writer, that is. :)
And while I've read The Stand and Logan's Run, I've never read I Am Legend. Recommend it?
I've read "I Am Legend," but I've never seen The Omega Man. I actually didn't know that the latter was based on the former, although I suspected it. And yes, it is worth reading. :)
I'm still trying to plogh through all the books I got for Christmas. I managed to get:
Real Magic by Isaac Bonewits Drawing Down the Moon by Margot Adler The Spiral Dance by Starhawk A HUGE tome of suspense stories by Alfred Hitchcock The Phantom Tollbooth by someoneorother and a book about Osiris...
I've managed to get halfwaty through Drawing downthe moon. It'll be Christmas till I Get through them all. :)
Oh, man. Shove The Phantom Tollbooth to the top of the list. When I was a kid, I read that book so many times that I wore the covers off two copies. I still love it, and I'm sure you will, too.

I write a lot, but I'm not a voracious reader.
