If you can recognize that lyric, you're a geek of my own heart.

Since I decided to NOT go to the reunion, I decided to do a bit of shopping.

My day began with the following plan:

1) Buy Robotech DVDs
2) Eat Indian Food
3) Watch MIB2

As I left, I realized that this would prolly leave me pretty poor...so I amended it:

1) Buy Robotech DVDs
2) Eat Whataburger
3) Watch MIB2

Then I realized that if I GOT the DVDs I'd end up with about 6 hours of material to watch...so...

1) Buy Robotech DVDs
2) Eat $5 Chinese

So I hit the Suncoast and the Robotech DVDs were a bit cheaper than I had expected. So I picked up another item that's been sitting on my Wish List forever.
1) Buy Robotech DVDs
1A) Pick up Pilot Episode DVD of Star Trek
2) Eat $5 Chinese

As of right now, I have Episode #1-36 of Robotech on DVD...the part usually called The Macross Saga. Episodes #37-60 are known as the Robotech Masters storyline and the final third #60-85 are The New Generation. I decided, since it may be some time before I can pick up the rest of the DVDs that I'd start with The New Generation Set, with #61-73. I can always go back and pick up the Second Generation DVDs and I like the Third Generation more than Second.

Basic info on Robotech: The show is about a ship that lands on Earth and is rebuilt into Human standards. The firrst generation (1-36) is about soldiers of the original builders of the ship trying to get it back. They fail, and, as a matter of fact, acclimate to the Human way of Life. It's truly a show to behold...it's got love triangles, empowered women, a kick ass storyline and only semi-bad dubbing. The Second Generation is about the actual builders coming back for the ship and thier missing soldiers. Seems the ship had a power source on it that the builders desperately need to power thier civilization. At the end, the power source explodes...and being an organic power source it takes root and begins to grow wild on the planet. The Third Generation takes place after another alien invasion, this time by creatures that EAT the power source...and now that it's bountiful and plenty on Earth, they've taken it over. The story is about trying to liberate Earth from the invaders. The whole thing spans 40 years and is a MAJOR influence on my writing and drawing style.

Unlike most of the rest of the US, when Robotech Came out in 1985, I managed to see a lot of the Third Generation. The Second Generation is very heavy on story, light on action and, as only kids were watching, most of the stations cancelled the series midway through The Second Generation. Not only did I see it, I recorded a bit of it (Robotech #65 was THE FIRST thing I taped for Archival purposes - Robotech was cancelled the next day :) ). Unfortunately, stations that carried The Third Generation promptly cancelled it when one of the main characters was revealed as a cross-dressing rock star. JUST as I was getting into it, they cancelled it in San Antonio.

It's kinda wierd now to see these episodes on DVD. They still hold up surprisingly well for 15 year old cartoons (although Anime has gone leaps and bounds since then) But seeing some of this stuff FULLY AWAKE and cognizant (it was on at 5AM in San Antonio) is a treat. It's beautiful stuff.

Plus it gives me reference material for Carrie later ;) Yellow has some COOL COOL dresses.

I also picked up Turnabout Intruder and the Pilot Episodes of Star Trek. The Christopher Pike pilot is a bit long and plodding, but makes for good sci-fi. DEFINATELY not the Western in Outerspace NBC was looking for. Plus seeing Bill Shatner act like a completely psychotic woman is a treat. You think he hammed it up male.

From there, I went for my $5 Chinese food. The place isn't all that good, but it's cheap and they give you a lot. They had a special, too. $5 for Shrimp Buffet Takeout. Seeing as I love shrimp, I took them up on the offer....then I forgot something.

GAS

I put in some gas in the truck, enough to fill the tank halfway. And it was there that I realized I'd been had. I opened up the styrofoam box to find - $5 worth of Shrimp Fried Rice. ::sigh:: I like shrimp, I like fried rice. I like shrimp fried rice. But not $5 worth of industrial grade fried rice. Oof.

I put the rest of my cash in the bank, which is good cause I was at -$1

Then I came home and I've been watching DVDs ever since. Got a letter in the mail, too. I'm posting it here because some of the people know Erin and Erin hasn't updated in a while (Hard to do when you're lying in bed counting sieling tiles). Marca, though, managed to say hello. :)

(marca here) Wow, what a weird few days! Erin is fine. It is done,
and she has come through with flying colors, although i suspect is
you asked her about it she might be of a different opinion. As might
have been expected (this is *us*, after all) things became *very*
strange for a while there, but everything has worked out just fine.
We are not at Bumrundgrad Hospital. Dr Preecha has changed home
bases. There was another web site out there, that i at least had no
idea existed, meant to lead people to the new place. However, since
Erin had wisely printed out the old website, thus proving that
Bumrundgrad had not removed Dr Preecha's old info yet, we were
accepted, with open arms in fact, once they figured out who the heck
we were. [...] I have ridden the Skytrain across Bangkok. it was
really interesting. The weather feels just like home.
Salient points: We are fine. Erin has had the surgery and is
recovering nicely. I am learning to navigate the Bangkok public
transportation network and have not yet taken the wrong train. As far
as I can tell, *ALL* Thai people are incredibly nice and helpful.
Somebody please answer this one so I know you're getting these, ok?
love to everybody,
marca
