Today's problem fixed by the Magical XP Fairies: Network card disn't work in his docking station. Reinstalled drivers, killed his docking profile, cleared the NVRAM, nothing. Kept coming up as "Other Device." Finally, just before I decide to replace the docking station, I set the BIOS defaults on the system. This shouldn't have really done anything, but, POOF. The card started working. Magical XP Reboot Faeries strike again.
Today's Just Wierd Call: How do I make my modem do the handshaking noise ALL the time? My mighty 1990s 2400baud modem powers kicked in and the problem was solved. Although, frankly, the 56K modems these days make it hard to listen for bad packets.
A note to those who "help." You know, when I go to you for help, it's for HELP. Not sarcasm. Thanks a lot. I realize I'm a freak, but that does not necessarily mean I accept ridicule easily. I asked a legitimate policy and procedure question - NOT THE DELL PART NUMBER FOR A HUG. You, sir, have single handedly ruined my day. You, sir, have made me angrier than the extremely rude and pissed off customer I had on the call when I asked for your help. I have retaliated in kind.
