So...at 7PM, I jumped on NPR, sat down at my cube to answer asinine questions, and immediately began to develop a migraine. Believe it or not, I'm not blaming it on election news or Bush or Kerry or Badnarik, but on general not-feeling-good-ness.
My web browser was open to CNN, CBS, Yahoo, NPR and even Drudge Report. whichever news source had the biggest electoral numbers over all got my attention. Believe it or not, NPR was the most liberal (no pun intended) with electoral numbers, announcing states and numbers FAR ahead of anyone else. However it was Drudge Report who said "BUSH WINS" at 10PM CST.
It was rather uncomfortable that night. My manager is a sweetheart, but a Bush supporter. He's good about not gloating, and I do my best to not push my liberal tendencies on him. However, the third person was EXTREMELY anti-Bush, muttering and cursing under his breath all night and trying to talk to me about how much he hated Bush. I didn't MIND saying I hated him, too, but I didn't want to make my Supervisor feel bad, so I kept it to a minimum, even when I was "leaned into" to say how much I hated the man.
CBS had running totals of voted in each state, and the moment I heard it was Ohio that was going to make or break it, I resigned to four more years of Cowboy Americanism. I had always privately predicted a Bush win, mainly due to dirty politics and practices like in 2000, but it seems to have been a legit win. Bush is our president, electorally and popularly. I accept this. I don't like it one bit, but I accept it.
There're are a lot of people out there who have talked about how This is Wrong, and The American People Suck, and Bush is Moron, and explanations as to why he won. I don't need to hear any of this. At this point, it's moot. He's in. And he did if fairly.
And while the rest of us are just crushed, disenheartened, angry, scared and dumbfounded, one thing is certain: There are 1458 Days to the next election. GET INVOLVED NOW. Vote in every election, no matter how small. Talk to your representatives, EVEN IF THEY'RE NOT YOUR PARTY. Make you voice loud and known. Get involved in the country. The Right is Loud. If you truly believe that your views must be represented: Be Louder.
There is one small victory for me.
See that little blue county in the middle of the sea of red. Almost smack in the middle? That's Austin. THAT'S why Austin was gerrymandered. THAT'S why Texans hate us. THAT'S why we're called the People's Republic of Austin. Because in a sea of red, we are loud enough to make a difference. And that's why I live here.
And that'll be the last of election whining you're gonna hear from me.

Wow, I'm beginning to relive my old anime days, tape trading for video tapes and shows and off the air fun from Japan. Only this time, it's from the UK, and without all that pesky frame conversion - I got the first three episodes of the new Battlestar Galactica series.
Man - this show REALLY rocks. It's still not really Battlestar Galactica, really, but whatever it is is DAMNED good. But tht Shakey Cam has GOT to go. Episode 1 "33" shows a fleet on the edge of insanity, five days of getting 33 minutes of rest before the next Cylon Attack. Like the cybermen "They never give up and they never get tired." Episode 2 is probably my favorite so far as we see that the Cylon Boomer really doens't even know she's a cylon, but knows SOMETHING is wrong with her. Episode 3 is a bit of a letdown, mainly due to one characters irrational demands for ELECTION NOW in the middle of a crisis. However it does sound like it's going to set up something new. Ronald Moore has mentioned he'd like to take episodes of the old series and rewrite them into New Galactica Episodes, and this one defiantely is leading into a scenario for a new "Gun on Ice Planet Zero."
Can I do War of the Gods? Please?
I also got that elusive Fan Mail I hear other artists get. Made me feel all warm and cozy....
