dolariWith all the talk of the skycar has kinda rekindled a longtime interest of mine.
It's probably because of growing up as an airline brat, I always enjoyed flying, and for most of my life, I was able to fly for free. But once my mom retired and I hit 21, her benefits stopped applying to me, and I had to pay for my flights. And suddenly running off to Orlando for a day or two became impossible.
Now I also love joyriding in my truck, but I'm tied to gas and how fragile my truck is becoming. I remember it was a big deal that I drove from here to Junction and back one of the longest joyriding trips I'd made...and it still was only 240 miles.
I've always thought of combining the two...a small truck like vehicle that could fly, or just simply a small 4 seater/6 seater airplane, something that could take me somewhere for a weekend...fly out on a Friday, spend the weekend somewhere, and fly home Sunday night.
One day, while flitting around the net reading about the Space Shuttle, I found out that the company that created the Russian Space Shuttle Buran, Molniya, had a page for it, and I began looking around there. That's when I found this:
Ain't it cute? I'm a sucker for Soviet/Russian design aesthetics, when it's not a cinderblock. :D I mean come on:
Aren't these really alien looking? AND cool looking?! :D
Anyways, I'd love to get one of those cool looking little planes, but being a fan of Soviet/Russian design, the thing is either built as solid as a brick, or will fly apart as it's delivered. :D
I did talk with someone at Molniya about their Buran CD, and jokingly brought up the plane saying "I'd get one if I got my license and 170 thousand dollars." The EMail I got back said "Let me know when you get close to our price, maybe I can get you a little discount."
Maybe once things are more financially stable. My truck barely passes ispection and it alwyas at 1/4 tank cause of cash...I doubt that's the best way to keep maintenance on a plane. But, man, if I was ever to win the lottery, I'm so getting me one of those (or the non-flying-apart-on-the-way-over-equivalents).
