Them's kissing words!

The day I failed spectacularly to become a digital printing goddess because I can't be bothered to read the fine print. I got paid on Tuesday, and in preparation for the upcoming zine fest, I bought some glossy paper. It came in Wednesday and printed magically. Although it was a 4x6 page. Cause I forgot to look at the size of the paper when I ordered it. Boogers.
So instead, I decided I'd make a day of it, and go on a pre-budgeted spending not-so-spree. I had a lot to do, and all day to do it. It began with a visit to a local laser hair removal place and a setup for a free consultation. They'd never done the hair removal I was asking for, so they said "we'll book you for an hour." It's going to be expensive, and it's going to take a long time, and prolly be very painful. But it's gotta be done. It's one of the biggest things that gives me away.
From there, I hit Office Depot - what I needed was a paper cutter (preferably the guillotine kind, 8.5x11 glossy paper, 5 DVDRWs (for a planned reinstall of my system, thank you for ripping my system apart weatherbug), and a packet of chocolates.
At first I couldn't find the place. So I pulled into a parking lot, whipped out my Sidekick phone and got on the net to find the local store. Turns out, if I'd just looked up instead of going right to the phone I woulda realized I was IN The Office Depot parking lot.
So I managed to get everything I needed...the staff were courteous and helpful. Perhaps a little TOO helpful. After telling the guy I was looking for glossy photo paper to make covers for a book, he gave me a ream of color glossy paper and sent me on my way.
From there, I went on another grovery rampage. After two weeks of eating nothing but frozen foods and rice and all manner of wierdness, I decided to just get my diet food, and anything else which caught my fancy. It was a LOT. :D
Finally, I got home, opened up the pack of paper....only to find out it's laserjet paper. Not inkjet. But, hey, paper is paper right? Not throughthis printer it wasn't. The colors were all washed out, they smeared easily, and it was basically a joke. Dayum.
I bought another package of paper, this time making sure it was color glossy photo paper, inkjet, and 8x5x11. I mean REALLY....
Friday
Friday began with a trip to San Antonio to see family and friends. My first "real" trip down there that wasn't just sightseeing or moseying on through till I eventually find myself there. I'm totally amazed that from my front door to my parents, it's EXACTLY 1 hour.
I went down to see my dad. I found out just a few days ago about an event that happened almost two weeks ago. My dad managed to flip off the back of his truck in a 360 and landed on the back of his neck. Trooper that he was, he shook off the effects, finished his ride, and then only went t the hospital after he told someone what happened.
I learned about this about a week ago why my cousin...IN JAPAN...told me he'd gotten in an accident. I didn't think that was right, though, becuae the accident she described was my uncle, who fell off a chair.
I found out two or three days ago that he had been hurt, and I talked with him. SO I decided to come down and see how he was in person.
When I got there, he was lying down on a sofa watching TV. When he got up to talk to me, he kinda stumbles, and I joked with him: "Wow, you musta hit your head pretty hard to still be woozy two weeks later."
Turns out he had a Colonoscopy that same day. He spent most of the day lying down, shaking off the anasthetic. I spent some time with them, showing off my pictures from Burger Boy (I had meant to stop by today, but I was running so late, there wasn't time).
I ran over for a quick bit with Steph, who I hadn't seen in forever, and I wanted to touch base with again now that I was a half a world away and could stop by more often. We had a good talk, I gave her an updted AWFW/CS CD and we just hung way the hell out, like we used to.
After they sat down for dinner, I moved back home, to have dinner with the folks. They've been very accepting of me lately, moreso than usual, so I want to be nicer to them myself. They seem to finally accept me as "something" instead of "My Son [TM]" so the evening was spent with a nice Italian dinner, and good conversation...
...until it came time to show Mom how to take her CDs and make them MP3s. Oi.
I plugged in my SD Card via the USB adapter...it didn't work. "Oh, yeah, this is Windows 98...it doesn't have native USB drivers. Well, I looked around and found one driver for a Mass Storage Device. It wasn't the driver for my specific device, but then it said it worked with all strage devices. So on it went...and down went Windows.
I swore I wasn't going to work on their computer. I double swore it. But after a few attempts at restoring the registry, I couldn't get the systyem back up. I pulled the registry from the very very very first installation from windows, and spent the rest of the night reinstalling their systems and programs.
I try to get out...but they keep pulling me back in!
Saturday through Sunday
These days were pretty much "Computer REinstall" days. I installed Windows, and then dumped my programs back onto the system. This time, though, around Sunday evening, the computer barfed on it, taking with it several episodes of TV I wanted, the AWFW Preview Book and everything else on the C drive. After much gnashing of teeth, I broke out the Windows Reinstallation CD....
Monday
I decided maybe it was time I just installed Windows and forgot about all the other programs I would eventually need, and just install the programs I need RIGHT THIS MINUTE. It took my entire night to get it all going, but it's up and running. I've got 5 CD+RW that will hold images of my system drive every month that it's stable. I meant to do this before, but the CDs just began to stack up and up with the same information. At least this time, I would just be overwriting with stable OSes.
Tuesday
Finally, with a working computer again, I managed to get the firs thalf of the AWFW Preview Book DONE! Now it's time to create the flipside of it, which'll have the first chapter of Closetspace. I also FINALLY managed to get the downloads of the Battlestar Galactica episodes I lost, and Torchwood, which I've yet to see. With the DoR announcements and a half of the AWFW book as WELL as three panels of AWFW drawn, I finally feel like I'm accomplishing something!
Wednesday
MY GLOSSY PAPER CAME IN! IT'S THE CORRECT PAPER! IT PRINTED THE FIRST COVER TO MY BOOK! IT'S GORGEOUS!
