dolariIt looks like the Republican Nominee will be John McCain.
I remember some years ago, that I would give some serious serious thought to a Colin Powel/John McCain Ticket (back when I was a fervent Libertarian/Democrat), simply because they seem to hold to the truth. McCain was pretty outspoken against some of the more blatant lies of the Bush Administration, and Powell, while having to tout the President's line, was very obviously unhappy with it, and showed his displeasure at having to spew it. Mind you, that was before McCain drank the President's Kool Aid and proceeded to become this wierd overexaggerated rightwing nutjob (Remember the Bomb-bomb-bomb-bomb-bomb-Iran song?). I still think he was trying to torpedo the Republicans in general with his antics, rather than saying what he felt.
So now, he's running. The McCain of 2008 isn't the McCain of 2000 or 2004. He's farther right, but is slowly leaning a bit mroe left. I don't agree with some of his policies (he's pro-life), but I (mildly) agree with a lot of his other issues. And frankly, if I found him sitting in the oval office at the end of 2008, I wouldn't be as dissapointed as I was in 2000, or incredibly furious as 2004.
Still, I hover around the Democrats myself, bordering on the left wing of Libertarian. I really like Hillary Clinton - but she's pulled some serious bullshit in the last few weeks (running unopposed in states where everyone had pulled out, pulling the famous "One eyed tear" her husband made famous). Obama is another I like, but I don't feel he's been around long enough to build "clout" with the politicians he's going to have to work with. I'd hate to see Obama get in, only to not have anyone take him seriously.
It's funny - this is the first election since I started voted where I could see myself voting for all the front runners (unlike the vote in 2000, where I didn't want to vote for ANYONE, which is okay, since the US Supreme Court voted FOR me that year).
