My dad has always been on the fence about my transition. He wasn't happy, and very uncomfortable, but in the end - he dealt with it, because he couldn't believe how happy I was being a woman. When Emily visited, he was the one saying "I hope she feels like family," knowing she was trans. He was the one who told me "Whatever you do from here on out, we're behind you."

It's not much of a letter, really, just a quick note that he enjoyed his visit and that here's the insurance card for the truck (he said he'd pay it as long as I had it, and it's been 16 years - I made out like a bandit).

But it starts with "J." He's called me "she" and "her." But never by my name. Just seeing that "J" alone made me tear up.
