It's hard to think that it's been exactly a month since I left Texas. A full month. It feels like I could just hop in my truck and go home right now. But then I look to the east and see gigantic Mount Rainier staring back at me and the tall pines and evergreens between me and it, and I realize I'm very far away from home. The coolness of the weather, and the real feel of "fall" I haven't felt since I lived in Pennsylvania. Writing this, I'm feeling very homesick, and lonely. I'm a long long way from home, and while my final home is now down the street from me, it feels just as far away....

Friday, August 1st
The last roadtrip in Texas was a shakedown cruise for the pickup, try and make sure there was nothing wrong with it before we hit the road. Little did we know what we'd do down the road. I'd had a place in mind, somewhere I'd never been before and had wanted to see. Something I'd hoped that would wow Emily.

My first trip, though, was to my property in Center Point, Texas. I "own" a half acre of land there...my dad really owns it, but he's given it to me. I gave it back to him before I left, for him to do with it what he'd like. We'd made our way to Comfort where an old roadway that was wiped out in the 1980s had recently been rebuilt. I'd always wanted to drive that closed stretch of road when it was closed and finally got a chance now (No, that wans't the "Wow" thing). We took some pictures of the town, the Union Monument, and made our way to the property.

We entered Center Point, and I took pictures of small little things that meant a lot to me. The Kato's Restaurant (long since gone), a house at the city limits, the convenience store, the old broken down house my parents had planned to buy when we sold nearly all our land in Center Point.

We got to our property, because there was something I wanted to do, that was very important. I found a loose rock with loose topsoil. With four scoops of my hand, I poured it into a cup that I could keep with me, so I'd always have a little bit of Texas with me.

With that done, I took one last look around, and got this panorama - one of the main reason I held onto that land for so long.

Click to take a gigantic big look at a gigantic big view. Gonna miss that view.

From there we moved onto a quick view of Camp Verde for a few shots of the old rest area park and general store there. The General Store has gone from being an actual general store to a tourist trap, but the park is still there. A few pictures and we moved on.

Taking a page from [livejournal.com profile] erinlefey, I drove on to a little spot out near Hunt. After turning onto a certain little road, I had Emily close her eyes, I took her by the hand and led her into the middle of this:

A replica of Stonehenge smack in the middle of the Hill Country. We spent some time there, playing around the stones and Papa Moai heads. I was sacrificed to the gods for a safe journey, which prolly is the reason I'm writing this in Washington right now.

We began to head back to Austin, to meet up with Dean, first going through Fredericksburg to Luckenbach. Emily and I had a purpose there, too. Luckenbach is a wonderful little GENUINE town. When you're there, it's a whole nother world. It's a place to relax, to listen to music, enjoy the evening. We played with a cat while music played. And before we left, we gave the town my truck's old license plate, as well as Emily's old plates. They're on a wall somewhere in town. If you ever go there, look for the Texas and BC plates, sitting side by side forever.

From there, we made our way into Austin, to spend the next day with [livejournal.com profile] audaciousd, his girlfriend Jill, [livejournal.com profile] erinlefey and [livejournal.com profile] tangentsferret.

Wow...that entry hurt to write....hurt hard.....
