Huge monster mega thank-yous to
jadaze for the Thanksgiving Dinner - I owe you some groceries. :)
Usually, I work Christmas and Thanksgiving. Back when I left home in 1996, I had very little reason to celebrate family holidays as we were sort of estranged...so when I was working,I worked the holidays so other people could have the day off with their families.
When I moved to San Marcos in 2006, I was much closer to home, and my parents attitudes (and mine) thawed quite a bit. At DNP, I worked half days those days, and was usually at home for Thanksgiving and Christmas, whether I worked them or not.
This year, I was given Thanksgiving to work again. I'd chosen doing DOR activities on November 20th over having Thanksgiving Dinner with Erin and Company on Thanksgiving (and ended up with Globex giving me NONE of the days off). So I was working Thanksgiving - no biggie, I'd done it before, I could do it again.
But as the day went on, I got kinda lonely. I could have been with friends having dinner with them instead of working...but then I started getting a bit homesick, the first real homesickness I've had since I moved here.
I went home that night and ate at a Dennys - it wasn't a feast, but it was good food.
Coming into work today, Jade waited by my job and dropped off some their family's Thanksgiving Dinner for me. :) That really just made my day...I'm not alone here in Seattle - and I have to keep reminding myself of that. There's Jade and her family, Erin and hers...and most of all Emily is not that far away.
Tonight, I'll be stopping by Erin's house for a Flash Gordon party Morgan is throwing. Tuesday and Wednesday I'll be in Vancouver visiting Emily. Dec 15 or 16, I'll finally be able to buy real honest to goodness groceries, possibly bringing Jade along to pick up Japanese/Indian and Mexican supplies, as well as some regular stuff. I'm STILL restocking my pantry from when I first moved in.
Things are looking up! :D
