No comic today. mainly because they're mucking with my schedule again, and I'll only have a 2 day weekend next week. So I'm going to head THAT problem off at the pass now.

However ther Closetspace 2nd Anniversary Gallery is up (http://www.dolari.org/cs/2ndanniversarygallery.htm) if you need your fix of comics this week.

Today I spent most of the evening getting reaquainted with an old friend. The first experiment resulted in "WHAT DO YOU MEAN I CAN'T TELNET TO MY SHELL ACCOUNT?!". So I got stuck with one game (http://www.dolari.org/infocom) instead of the three other games I had set up as well. So I downloaded WinFrotz and played "A Mind Forever Voyaging" from one of the DAT files I uploaded.

If you've never played this game, go out and find it. It's not hard. Grab a copy of WinFrotz and get the data files for it. I consider it prolly the best text adventure game of all time. It also has the best ending I've ever read for a text adventure (In all the segments you play, you REALLY get smacked down hard emotionally...and then the end just hits you upside the head with something so good, it'll bring tears to your eyes).

It's also pretty topical. I first played it around the time Newt Gingrich was going on about the Contract With America and it's still pretty scary playing it now with the whole "Faith Based Initiatives." Basically, it's about a congressman trying to push through a "Plan" that will make society better. You're a computer that has to run a simulation of that plan 10,20,30,40 and 50 years from now. During those years, a cult priest runs for congress and is accepted.

And it all goes downhill from there. Now I doubt that in the worst case scenario that society would ever get as bad as in the game ("Word of God" Children pelting a Hassidic Jew with stones and banners at the zoo saying "Monkey Torture at 2PM at the Monkey House") but it always sends a chill when you play this game and see something going on in the game that has been bandied about in the last few years (Terrorism police, religious decrees couched as government policies).

Grabbit, it's a good game. And the "security wheel" it needs for copy protection is available online.
