A woman interviewed on CBS News says she's not happy with the War on Iraq, but will vote for Bush anyways:

CBS: "Why?"
Woman: "Because he's a Christian."

Fits right in with what's going on in Oregon. The Oregon Christian Coalition is up in arms because one of our supreme court judges is openly gay. They want him off because he won't be impartial (they say).

Wonder what they say if folks tried to get Christian judges voted out on the grounds that *they* wouldn't be impartial?

Thing is, how many Americans will vote like that because that's what they think too.

Also, consider this:

It is my theory that most Christians Vote:

That's how republicans keep control...

If it makes you feel any better, someone that would vote this way likely did not vote for Gore in 2000 (oh lookie here, remember who won the popular vote that year?) and likely didn't vote for for Clinton in 1992 and 1996 (I seem to recall him winning). So people like that are in the minority.

Personally, I long for the day when a politician can freely state that he is not even remotely Christian, and still win. Buddhists and Hindus in office! YEH! Atheism for America! DOUBLE-YEH!

The interviewer should have looked at her and said, "Kerry is Christian too. Why won't he get your vote?" It would have been interesting to see the smoke come out of her ears as her little brain tried to grasp that one.

No, that's an easy one. Kerry's Catholic. Many fundamentalist Christians are very anti-Catholic. In addition, as late as the 1930's the Republican Party had an anti-Catholic plank in their party platform and organizations that discriminate, like the KKK and private golf clubs, often include Catholics along with Jews and African-Americans in whome they discriminate against.

If I weren't rushing to work (ha!) I would add that my sister is VERY fundie and she voted for Bush because he is Christian ... she glosses over everything he does because he's Christian ... I can understand where she's coming from because I'm christian too, but there comes a point when a candidate's policies, not to mention the safety and sanity of the free world, must be considered. I won't be voting for Bush I assure you. Gimme a candidate who isn't crooked and just plain evil ...
