I made the mistake of mentioning I had Doom 3...and now I've had one person ask me for a copy.

Back in the day, when I tape traded, I'd only copy stuff that didn't exist for sale, or was out of print. I never charged for a copy, either, just for postage. Back in the day, that's how you got anime and hard to find TV shows.

I carried that over into abandonware and emulation....I believe in the abandonware theory...if it no longer exists for sale, I'll be happy to make you copies.

Emulation is more grey markey than abandonware, mostly because those old systems still exist, and you can find the carts sold, but not from the retailers anymore. So I tend to trade games that aren't "in print."

I'm not going to copy a game that's five days old for you.

And if I did, I sure hope you've got some serious anti-virus protection.

I have an appointment with Dr. Chase on the 23rd at 9:15 AM. I have no idea how I will do it...but I will. Somehow. Money isn't the problem, it's veering off the freeway due to sleep deprivation that worries me.

If I lose my job and can't afford hormones, I'm hoping I can convince the comic readers to divy up a bit...I don't want to hold the comics HOSTAGE per se...but if I don't get the medication, the comics won't be done.

However, that's an ultimatum for later.

Absolutely, butI also believe that if it's not available in a buyable form anymore, it's fair game.

For example: When I mention I had Doom 3, someone asked for a copy of Doom 1. I ASSUMED that it just wan't for sale anymore, but sure enough, Id is still selling Doom 1 (and even Commander Keen!). So I told him "No" and pointed him to the Id site.

If AWFW and CS were taken off the website never to be put up again, I wouldn't mind archives of the stuff floating around as long as they weren't SOLD.

In the event of such a contingency, you could protect your copyright by deliberately releasing it under a specific licence. Personally, I want to have the complete AWFW in dead tree form...

You may get your wish with the end of Book 1. :)

My only real contingency right now is "If you're going to use one of my images, please leave (or put) my copyright on it. And take it down if I ask." I really admired how JMS handled the B5 Image problems, by going to sites and saying "You can keep your images, just put copyrights on them."

I've only really had one issue so far, with someone using an image of Morningstar threatening Andrea to sell Halloween Toys, and it was taken down REALLY quickly.

Now that you mention it a Morningstar halloween costume sounds pretty frightening... ...even for people who've never heard of him before...
