So, with a doctor's appointment coming up in a few hours, I decided I would try to get some sleep at night so I wouldn't be dog tired on the trip back from San Antonio.

It was a pretty sleepless night. I kept wakng up, shifting, and I was "thinking too much." Trying to figure out a storyline branching off from recent Closetspace episodes. However, one time, I somehow managed to get on my back (I HATE sleeping on my back) and decided to turn over. I found out I couldn't move.

All my life I've wanted to astral project. i've worked on it for decades and never once did it. My mind immediately snapped awake and said "Now. Now is the time to do it." So I knew I couldn't move, but was wide awake otherwise.

I counted doen from 5 telling myself on 5 I was going to open my eyes. 5-4-3-2-1 the eyes flitted open then closed. I tried a second time and only got one eye to open. The third time my eyes finally opened up.

I still couldn't move, though..so I did the same thing - on 5 I was going to get up and move. And I managed to swing my legs off the couch. I got up, felt the carpet on my feet and the piping from the couch (I sleep on the couch due to lack of bed).

I managed to stand up and look into the hallway and look around. But then in the corner I saw two red dots. They WEREN'T EYES. These were just two red dots like laser pointers on the wall. I didn't panic, but I reached for the lightswitch, and my han passed right through the switch. When I couldn't get the lights on, I began to panic, and ran for Dean's rooms. As I passed my bedroom and looked in, I DID see one red eye. I started to scream Dean's name which I heard as a "Blurble" and the popped awake on the couch.

Why don't I think this is just a dream? Normally, in a dream, I don't "feel" a body. You know? Very disembodied and etherial. This was very solid and was very specifically "Me Moving Around" versus "Me suddenly appearing where I was thinking about being." I couldn't find the the two red dots that were on the wall, but I DID find the Big Red Eye in my room - it was the red LED on the optical mouse. Why Microsoft designed that thing to look like an eye I'll never know.

What does worry me, though, is the no-lights panic. I used to be afraid of the dark, and I would panic in darkness if no one was around (I'd sleep in the bedroom with the lights on till Dean would go to bed and turn them off). All night long, even before this episode, I felt wrong. I kept waking up thinking someone was in the room with me, or waking up when I "heard" silence that unnerved me. The panic I felt when I couldn't turn on the lights was scary,

I thought I had this fear of the dark thing solved. Doesn't look like I did....

Oh, well, I'm awake only an hour earlier than I planned, and I DID it. I'm so incredibly stoked that I managed it....

Cool! I've always wanted to be able to do that. The next time I wake up with sleep paralysis I'll have to try that. :)
