A little response to a letter on the Venus Envy Mailing List:

It seems that "dear sweet" Erin is a might upset over the results of
>the election...all I have to say to her is GO FUCK YOURSELF!!! I am
>outta here after listening to her self-centered, self-serving,
>bleeding heart ravings...she has lost any civil rights or been harmed
>in any way by the current and continuing administrations
>policies...and if she doesn't like this country I advise her to get
>the fuck out and move to Iran or North Korea or even to Sudan and
>live in peace and tranquility with her dissappointments...

I love this argument.

I hate this administration as much as Erin and the other 49% of the voters out there. And you know WHY I hate this
administration? Because I LOVE America. And I hate to see this wonderful country "For the People, of the People, by the
People" being turned into one of "For the Christians, of the Corporations, by the Elite."

So no. I'm sticking right here. And I'm going to do everything I can to make America what it used to be. I HATE THIS
ADMINSRTATION. BECAUSE I'M A PROUD AMERICAN.

Cause, remember - If you question authority, you're NOT American.

I hadn't seen this letter yet. Its conservatives like this that piss me off. I just want to say "STFU and for Chrissakes GET OFF MY SIDE!" Its dipshits like this that perpetuate the myth that just because you are a conservative you are de facto a racist, bigot, knuckle-dragging moronic/evil genius (weird dichotomy with those two, GWB is apparently both), cousin-loving, anti-semite who can't abide a difference of opinion. We're not, y'know.

I can understand a stupid rant like this (well, no I can't) if it were on a political discussion group, but this is a yahoogroup fan appreciation group for a COMIC STRIP about transgender issues (which by nature appeal to liberal viewpoints). HOW DID HE EXPECT HER TO FEEL?

I consider myself transgendered, and I FULLY realize that I am among a small minority in the TG community by being politically conservative. That's why I don't discuss politics in completely inappropriate fora like this. I made the mistake of (being a major dick) inelegantly responding to a political post on that forum when I first joined, and I learned my lesson. Forebearance with politics is always the best advice.

What's worse is that politics has been explicitly banned as a topic of conversation SEVERAL times. But every 6 weeks or so, we get the same beating-heads-against-walls from people who don't realize that you CAN'T WIN ONLINE ARGUMENTS ... especially about politics. I am guilty of this too, but its usually in an explicitly political forum or LJ-post.

Frankly it sounds like troll-baiting to me, but I can only hope.

*shakes head* They'll never learn.

Need to get all the GLBT folk in the red states to take over one or two of them and reenforce the rest of the blue states. Tis a war of rights that's being faught.

(Or the need to convert people away from organized religion... I think taking over states with GLBT folks is easier.)

Scarily, that sounds like the mirror image of http://christianexodus.org/ .

I'm all for Christian Exodus if it means I can have an Austin free of warring politics. :) If not, your plan sounds pretty good, too.

Isn't Boston the area that GLBT people are most welcome? Originally I thought it was oregon, but the gay marriage ban says otherwise.

christianexodus.org oh that's funny. Yes, let's ban the act of trying to convert people as hate speech. Let them have one state and move all there, it would make taking over the rest of the states easier.

Rambling.

A major thing people don't understand when they say "Conservative and liberal" is that Conservatives are for preservation of pre-existing beliefs and practices and Liberals are for the abandonment of old practices and the focus on new ones. Both are good in certain situations, since once you have something you tend to want to hold onto it, and once you have something you tend to want newer and better, but people do have to realize that this country was founded by liberal ideals. It may sound funny coming from a Republican, but I like to see myself closer towards the middle ground. Welcoming new ideas, but trying to preserve old ideas that work. That's what made America great, and why this generation (The 15 to 25 year olds) have to work to get rid of bi-partisan political agendas and work on uniting both Republican and Democrat together. New ideas + Protecting Old Ideas = New and better ideas plus pre-existing working old ones = BETTER AMERICA. Even though some people may see Kerry as a Pinko Commie Treehugger or Bush as a War Mongering zealot, you have to admit that partisan politics, not the parties themselves, are tearing the country apart. If people could combine old idea and new idea, we could start moving forward instead of squabbling while the rest of the world gets set to slit our throats. China's waiting; North Korea and Iran are waiting; The Palestinians are waiting; The remnants of Al Qaida are waiting; waiting for us to slip just enough so that they can destroy us. Remember, A Free America is the anti-thesis to dictators and communists alike. We spread freedom and equality, and frankly, they don't like that. I suspect we'll eventually fight all of them, but the question is: Will we unite together as a people, or will we squabble over politics until we face the fate of the Romans? Sorry I started rambling, but politics is something I take very seriously because it determines if America will falter or if it will fall. People don't want to believe it's possible for such a great country to be destroyed, but remember the Romans. They said the same thing too, until Rome burned to the ground.

Forgot to mention, but like inefficient, I too am politically conservative, and the post wasn't meant to say that anyone on this particular LJ thread's ideas of conservatives and liberals are flawed, but that the majority of Americans don't know the truth behind the terms. Granted, there is more to being each, but that is essentially the fundamental epitome of conservatives and liberals. And also, conservatives that go around and condemn people like in that letter seriously piss me off. The are entitled to their opinion, but that gives them no right to go and flame someone for being who they are. If you don't like someone's beliefs, you don't go into their home, call them a derogatory name, then walk out.

That's an amazing post, there. And I do agree, we need to keep what works, and move forward. The problem I'm seeing is not so much a "keeping what works" but "dragging back" of ideas and some Texas-style Good-Old-Boy-Politicking and making sure Our Way Is Right.

And you used that icon to make me more lienient towards you, didn't you!? ;)
