dolariEvery year, taking a page from Art Bell, I take predictions for what will happen in the upcoming year. If you have a prediction, something you know or feel will happen in 2012, post it here (please no "gimmies," predictions involving me, or predictions that could get the authorities on my ass). On Dec 31, 2012, we'll take those predictions and see if they happened.

Date: 2011-12-30 06:43 am (UTC)The world will not end when the 13th b'ak'tun cycles in, but a whole lot of people will expect it to. Most of those people will not be Maya, most of whom will celebrate a culturally-significant calendar event but wonder what the commotion is for everyone else.
The US economy will continue to improve, slowly -- it will not collapse drastically again this year.
Glenn Beck's media share will continue to decline. In a year's time he will be a thing of the past.
The housing market in the US will bottom out, though it won't start bubbling big time yet.
The Eurozone will collapse.
Bradley/Breanna Manning will be sent to court martial and tried there, and found guilty. 80% confidence that trans-stuff will make an appearance during the media wave. The constitutionality or justice of Manning's treatment will not get a hearing in any court.
The Cascadia Subduction Zone will let slip a quake of Magnitude 6 or greater.
Barack Obama will be reelected.
The Assad regime in Syria will fall.
The highs of revolution will wear off in Egypt. Conservative Islamists are likely to dominate the elected government.
The asteroid 433 Eros will not strike Earth.
The Curiosity rover will arrive on Mars capable of carrying out its mission.
Synthetic biology will become a hot investment area for venture capitalists.

2) Marriage equality for same-sex partners gets decided by SCOTUS.
3) Lamar Smith loses his seat in Congress thanks to the fact that he pissed off so many companies headquartered in his constituency like Dell and Rackspace with his sponsorship of SOPA.
4) Barack Obama gets re-elected after the Republican candidate alienates moderates and independents in the party's zeal to embrace the far right wing element.
