Writing this chapter has made me realize why I have such a jealous reaction to people getting their surgery. I had my chance at surgery, right at my fingertips before it was taken away from me. It took a long time to get over that. Sadly, by the time I did, friends who did get their surgeries had turned it into a self-fulfilling prophecy. I lost one. I kept another.
