Aug. 24th, 2013 08:26 pmSo. Today, I applied for an apartment. I didn't get my first choice. I didn't get my second choice. Nor my third or fourth. BUT I DID GET THE FIFTH CHOICE! Which is surprising considering there wasn't a third, fourth or fifth choice this morning.
My first choice had no apartments available until the end of October. My second had an available apartment, at $890. $50 more than two weeks ago, and almost $100 more than I'd originally asked. After scrambling around to find other apartments in the area, my third choice was in a HORRIBLE area, my fourth was too small (425 sq foot efficiency? And I can't turn the walk in closet into a bedroom?). But the fifth was juuuust right. Almost.
It's the biggest of the apartments I'vew looked at at about 700sq ft. And the cheapest at $775. In a good part of town, convenient to the freeways if I'm going south on 183 or Mopac...
...and therein lies the problem. The reason the apartment is cheap, is that, of the five freeways that converge there, I can only get to two without going through a maze of side streets. It touts itself as being able to get to the swanky mall across the freeway. It's a five minute walk at best. It's way longer to drive as you fling around side streets and residential twisty turny roads to backtrack.
Still, inaccessible means quiet, and for me, my work commute gets chopped in half. And it's twenty dollars cheaper a month than I'd originally planned. And much bigger.
I move in on the 26th of September.
