When I was developing The Military Story ( http://deninet.com/book/1258/voices-authority-story-creation-documents-updated-june-20th-2011-2pm-pdt ),I was in the middle of my Seattle Depression. Dana's standoffishness mirrored my growing discontent and alienation with the Pacific Northwest. But as I didn't want a story with an angry sad ending, I had Dana semi-assimilate to get new world, make friends and even come back after she was rescued. At the time...it wasn't something I'd considered myself.

Didn't think life would imitate art. Not that I'd go back to stay like Dana...but at least for a visit. :)
