Rough sketch for the cover of Girl in the Mirror.

Sadly, the book is essentially dead in the water. I've sat on this for about a year now, and haven't even written a word in months because of it.

There were some particularly unhappy chapters to write about a person on my life who was dead set against my transition. This person has gone above and beyond to bury the hatchet with me and rebuild our relationship.

However...they've also made it known that reopening that wound would be a very bad thing. And I don't want to hurt that relationship.

Just pile it on the stack of projects Jenn will likely never finish.

The LJ posts you made that ended up forming the first draft of this book are some of the best i've ever read. You're a great storyteller, and i really enjoy your prose (vs comics, which i find harder to follow in the 6-panel format). I think it'd be a real shame if you didn't finish the story, whether you end up publishing or not. I definitely understand feeling awkward about writing a memoir that could paint friends or family in a bad light, but fuck man, you're a writer - that's part of the deal. And if things are better now, then that will also reflect in the book, which makes it a more rewarding story anyway. Plus there is always the option of publishing under a pseudonym, or letting the person in question review the final draft, or maybe your editor would cut out the worst of it anyways - all of which require you to have completed the work in the first place. I can understand not wanting to write any more for your sake, but for someone else's feels like a bit of a cop-out.
