Feb. 13th, 2014 02:52 amThe AWFW comic isn't nearly as plotted out as CS. CS is plotted, episode per episode, right to the end. AWFW has points I want to hit, and themes to explore, but I allow the story to go where it goes to get there.
Several weeks ago, the plan was to have Andrea meet Iskander, and not know who he is. Then leave, find out, and come back. As I was writing it, though, Andrea said "Hey, you know, I'm not stupid. I figured out he's Iskander." So she tells him straight up - you're Iskander, aren't you. Problem is, I needed her to go away for a bit and come back, so Iskander can heal up a little. I'd lost the reason for her to walk away.
There were ideas. Have her talk to Hanna about who Iskander was, come back. Have her find Hank tending to his wounds, come back later. Have her leave, argue with Michael about Iskander, come back later.
But there needed to be a decent amount of time between meetings.
Then suddenly another thought popped up. There's a HUGE event coming up in AWFW, and a dangling plot threat I've been sneaking in every so often. Let's revisit that plot thread for a strip or two, then cut back to Andrea coming back to see Iskander.
So I'm in the shower taking a quick rinse before bed, when suddenly, it smashes into me. Let's NOT touch the thread. LET'S FINISH THE THREAD. And the big event coming up? LET'S DO THAT, TOO.
And suddenly, all the characters are talking - "I'll do this, then that, and follow up with that and this" "I'll show up with so-and-so, and that other guy won't, and that'll drive a plot" "Then go back to Iskander, and use that to do your other plot!"
And suddenly, the fact that I forgot to draw one comic last week has turned into a massive escalation of the story.
God, I've missed plot-making. :D
