So last week, an old dear friend spent a week with me, to show her "my Texas." Tess and I drove around the Hill Country, logging 1200 miles in the week we were running around.

I took her on the Three Sisters tour in the western Hill Country, around Austin, San Antonio, and a day in Gillespie County (for me, Gillespie and Kendall counties are "My" hill country). We even went out to the property and scouted out where my house will be...whenever that is.

I loved having her here, as it was a nice break in what's become a very lonely return to Texas. I understand now why the Doctor has companions. Touring the universe isn't as much fun when you're not sharing it with someone. I was in such a good mood, I'd even started drawing again (And so did she!)

But what really really lifted my mood was telling stories. Not just of the Texas Hill Country...but my STORIES. The fiction world inside of my head. There's more in there than just Closetspace and AWFW. There's Bill, who was ripped across time and space to fight a war he had no stake in. And Xand, who lived 2000 years and shaped society until the year 3797. Dana stuck protecting an enemy town. A lost prehistoric tribe looking for home.

Her reaction as I talked about the future of AWFW was so wonderful.

And Tess is a storyteller, too. She bounced ideas and stories back at me. Propped up holes in my plots, compared them with her stories. And the back and forth, the storydevelopment, the world building ont he scale Pazi and I did for Dana's story. It was a reminder that I write and draw for fun. And that tech support just feeds my stomach.

If there's anything Tess gave me this weekend, it was a remembrance that I am not my job. I am a writer and artist, and only do the job to allow me to write and draw.

It's 4AM...Im sitting alone in my room yet again. I've had two days of work trying to re-grind me to a pulp.

But I have my stories to tell. THAT is where I'll find my happiness.
