Some thoughts on Wind Waker now that I'm done with it.

The most controversial part of the game is the Art Style. Once I realized that they were going for Saturday Morning Cartoon (right down to the sound effects), I actually settled into it. It's cute and adorable. But not what I want long term from my Zelda experience (which is gonna suck, since the next two games I'll play is Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks, which use the same style).

The story, though, was excellent. And I love the Tetra/Zelda character dichotomy. As much as I love Ocarina of Time, I hate that Sheik is this incredibly powerful confident character, then turns into the meek and almost whimpering Zelda. Twilight Princess had my fave Zelda (who wasn't a damsel in distress, but a damsel in torment) who proactively fought alongside Link to take down Ganon. This game, though, had the same proactive Zelda...but it wasn't Zelda. It was TETRA through and through in Zelda's clothing. I really enjoyed that she didn't get (what felt like) mindwiped like in Ocarina. And she was much more fun than Twilight Princess' Zelda.

It also felt very short, and very long at the same time. There wasn't much action in the game, but what was there was fun. But there was a LOT of busy work and side questing. I can see why friends gave up on the original GameCube Triforce Quest. Even with most of the chart-getting removed, it felt like a slog. The good music eased the pain though (Zelda games have some REALLY great music).

I also loved that, essentially, Ganon WINS in the end, and is only stopped when someone else makes his Triforce Wish for him.

In all, it was a lot of fun, if very long in parts (sooooooooooo much saaaailing).
