Sep. 24th, 2014 10:07 pmI hate the idea of fan-fic. Always have. The few times someone has come to me saying that they want to play in my universe, or to do something with Carrie and Allison (usually make them into lovers), I tend to tell them: "You can do that if you want, but why not just file the serial numbers off, change the names, and make them your own characters?"
Now that I have free time, though, some very very VERY early ideas that are coming up. Specifically, two Dr Who episodes I've had in my head since the 80s. While I always had it in my head to submit these to the series for production, technically they're fan-fic. And given the specifics of the episodes, filing the numbers off isnt' really possible.
So...should I write them anyway so I can throw them at the BBC writing program (same one that got the Closetspace episode) and just get them out of my head? Or write them and be embarassed that I have written fan-fic? Or just try and get it out of my head, and focus on my original efforts?
Decisions decisions.
