dolariRewatching the original Battlestar Galactica when I see a link floating around with "reimagined visuals." You know...the effects on the original show...they still hold up pretty well, thanks to John Dykstra and Doug Trumbull. My only complaint is how often they're reused repeatedly.
Which wasn't supposed to happen - you know why? The original Battlestar Galactica was supposed to be a series of mini-series/movies of the week. The first episode was supposed to be a three-part miniseries, followed several months down the road with "Gun on Ice Planet Zero" as a two part mini-series.
Instead after the first miniseries, ABC hastily said "Screw the mini-series, we're going full series" which left the production with a smaller per-story budget and limited new effects footage per episode. Which meant they had to recycle everything they could for future episodes.
The move to series was so last minute, the show also had to hastily rewrite scenes because of the changes as they were being filmed (Serina, Cassiopeia and Baltar were originally supposed to die in the miniseries version of the first episode, scenes were filmed, and discarded (Baltar's death was played BACKWARDS to show the sword being retracted before his death)). Even Gun on Ice Planet Zero, which was being filmed as a mini-series when it went to series, had scenes refilmed to add Baltar (the Imperious Leader was originally in his place).
And now you know!
