Early TNG is wierd. Troi is more Spock-like than Data. Data's Walking Encyclopedia is well known, but there's an air of deep caring when speaking with Geordi. Picard is all defensive about the French. I love Yar’s little hints of an ultra-violent past.

Geordi is the one character who seems to be fully formed from Day One. He's the same "persona" from Episode 1 to the very end.

I will agree with this. The first season in particular seemed to get caught up in many trappings of the old series.

Such a pity Tasha Yar was only around for such a short period of TNG. And apparently, by her own request, feeling the character wasn't being developed. (And she and Marina Sirtis were originally slated to play the other's role? Egad)

Hmmm. I see there's now a complete BD box of TNG available - not exactly free with six boxtops, but still, £145 for all seven seasons.. and not available in the US? Weird. Similarly on iTunes: £28/season, or $55-65 each, both still more expensive than the box.

Meanwhile, I'll keep a candle burning in hope of an HD remastering of B5. =:/ Dammit, why can't Tim Cook or Elon Musk be B5 junkies? =:)

Actually, we do have the High Definition TNG stateside! It's what I've been watching and it's glorious!

And you know why there likely not going to be a high definition remaster of Babylon 5? Warner Brothers lost all the digital effects files. Even the DVD remaster had to use the standard definition effects and blew them up to fit 16:9. And it looked horrendous.
