Ah, it's true enough - I have been found planning. =:) The grand roadtrip I mentioned a little while back - we had certain anchor points: friends we wanted to visit, or sights we particularly wanted to see. (Almost all the former, though) Beyond that, it was flexible.
On the other paw, I'm reminded of one family summer holiday, when we intended to tootle around the Cantabrian coast of Spain, but found the weather at the time a bit too familiarly wet, and just cut across the country instead, winding up in the southeast, then the south. Or another time, when the intent was to see something of Hungary, so we wound up there, and simply meandered around, taking cues from guide books as suggestions for places we might enjoy, or specialities worth making a point of trying.
