Ah, and to think, I was so proud of my BBC Micro (originally a Model A, ordered before the awkward price rise, when they twigged they sort of needed to make a profit), with the higher res modes including 640x256 1bpp, 320x256 2bpp, and 160x256 4bpp. The last, of course, saw a lot of use in arcade ports and *ahem* inspirations. 'Course, with those display modes taking up 20K, and the Model B offering 32K, minus OS workspace.. programming had to be lean. With which I feel you're familiar, maybe?
It was a good time to get into computing. Not that I ever foresaw adopting the Acorn camp would lead me into a pioneering games dev outfit, but hey, what's the fun in life if it's predictable? ^_^
