May. 27th, 2015 03:57 pmRethinking what I need on the computer front...my original plan when I moved home MIGHT still be doable.
Basically, I've wanted a medium ported laptop/tablet from toting around the house, a high powered desktop for gaming and a crap machine as a file server.
I already have the crap machine, the Pentium 2 can run ArchLinux and doesn't need horsepower to connect to the network and file share around the house.
If I get the mid range laptop/tablet, I'll be able to do comics again as well as just use it to tote around the house. That's two systems right there.
The gaming PC will have to wait. Possibly a very long time. But the rest could happen. The old pc will need wireless hardware, and the new laptop/tablet needs to be purchased (although that will still take time).
Well see how it goes.

Even a low-end laptop from 2-3 years ago is worth practically nothing now, and is not worth the effort to try sell second-hand. The last few years have changed everything. When Windows 10 comes out even your cellphone will be able to connect to a monitor and keyboard to operate as a "real" computer with desktop-style applications running on it (see http://liliputing.com/2015/04/some-windows-10-phones-can-also-be-pcs-just-add-a-display-mouse-and-keyboard.html). As long as you jump on the "cloud" (or network computing) bandwagon, you can get massive bang for your buck nowadays.
