New Egg had not heard from the reseller in 48 hours...So now they's asking me to hang on two to five business days while their marketplace department try to recontact the reseller.

So there's another week in the can with TWO busted laptops and no cash to just BUY a new computer right now.

New Egg has been good about this...but I'm never ever buying a refurbished system again.

Ugh! That's some ferociously bad luck. =:P I so wish Dandelion were in a condition to send along, but even if the problem is the SMC, actually replacing that means some outfit being able to source a replacement, and having the chops to desolder and securely mount a small SMD chip. Frustrating, as that's probably all that prevents everything else from powering up - and it's a nice system, when it's working. Even now, I miss that 17" screen - newer MBPs are only a maximum of 15", even if 1.5x the resolution.

I wouldn't, myself, be too down on the idea of used/refurbished systems, so much as the lack of QA on the part of some vendors and their hosts. Hopefully NewEgg and/or the seller will try to make it up to you in some way - this is clearly not at all acceptable.
