So, you remember Bobby and Uni from the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon? Well, they didn't leave The Realm for a long long time. Bobby grew up in The Realm, living with all the supernatural forces they had to conquer every week, for years and years. He became quite adept at recognizing what was magical, what was spiritual, and what was material...
...and when he returned to Earth, all grown up, but not matured (he was always the kid in the group), he found another group of people who were quite adept at recognizing what was magical, what was spiritual, and what was material. And that's how Bobby Ray Stantz became a member of the Ghostbusters.
And Slimer is the Ghost of Uni.
