Every trip has one unexpected joy I never thought I'd see. In 2008, Dad and I risked a 100 mile dirt road trip in the middle of a Colorado Winter snow, with no services, and no people...and came across the amazing Irish Canyon in doing so.

On the way down to Texas, it was Wind River Canyon - no idea it was there until I ploughed into it, and drove for an hour in an amazing geological wonderland. Old Bisbee in Arizona may be the "joy" for this trip.

In one of my stories, Pazi and I created a city "Gefana" that exists in a canyon. It's a large city, looks a lot like Star Wars' "Cato Nemoidia" if it was done on a more modest city budget. That city apparently exists - Old Bisbee, AZ.

It's a town built into the cliffs of a tightly steep canyon, along with a stream that has been been re-engineered back and forth under the main street. There are bridges going over the streams directly into houses. Climbing roads go steeply up to houses braced against the canyon walls. It's amazingly lovely.

Well, at 8PM at night. Might look different in the day. But holy cow, that was lovely.
