So, it looks like I can't make my yearly backup of my documents cause I'm all out of space on my two 2TB drives. Considering they're getting on in years, I think it's time I got a replacement (assuming I can save up the money for them).

I'd make my current two 2TB drives into backup drives only (they're currently holding not just my documents, but document backups spanning back to 2004 and system images). I'm considering getting a 4TB or 6TB drive to consolidate all the other data on my 2TB drives into one drive (About 3TB of actual data, if you remove the archive backups and images).

Something I should aim for with the tax return or Patreon. Or donations. Something along those lines.

It's extra expense, but you might also consider some form of RAID1 (ie mirroring), for critical data, to help guard against drive failure. Here, my first RAID was a cheap enclosure with two 1.5TB drives, for my earlier photography. My current one, however, is a soft RAID administered by the OS, of a pair of 3TB external drives, so no need for an enclosure or its cost. That said, I did wind up getting a USB3 hub, as I found one or other of the constituent drives' cables would get jostled or pulled out one in a while, forcing a day's rebuild of the pair. =:P

Sometime, I should consolidate the "fun" drives, given they're coming on for five years old - a couple 1TBs, a couple 1.5. Nothing critical on them, but it'd still be a bit of a nuisance to redownload everything.

I might, if things go well next year, try a cloud option as well - I'm not fond of the subscription required, but it would be really nice to have plenty of redundancy, as well as completely offsite (fire or theft come to mind). The trouble, of course, would be the sheer volume of data involved.
