Since I hate not telling a story once I start it, here's the rest of the Redskirts outline and extended arc story line I'd planned:

Act 1 & 2: http://dolari.net/pub/redskirts.txt

Act 3: Beaumont, Chekov and Davison find one power generator destroyed, no saboteurs. They head to another and find some women there attempting to overload it. They fight, showing off their skills: Davison grabbing nearby debris and using it expertly as a weapon, Chekov sharpshooting, Beaumont tinkering with the generator to bring it our of its critical state. Davidson admires Chekov's skill with weaponry. With the generator secure, and Taurean security holding the saboteurs they head back.

Act 4: Things at the main hall aren't faring too well. A number of saboteurs are surrounding Kirk, Spock, Dara and Theela. This is obviously a hostile situation but Kirk is attempting to negotiate ala "The Cloud Minders" to end hostilities. It fails and a brawl breaks out. Spock and Michaels do well, but Kirk, not being used to his new body, doesn't. Dara protects Theela as best she can, but seems to be more directing our heroes to flanking and opportunistic saboteurs trying to gain an upper hand. Chekov, Davison and Beaumont enter subduing the crowd finally. Kirk enters phase two of negotiations and eventually comes to an agreement that I was still working out in my head when I decided to shelve the story.

Act 5: Davison thanks Kirk for the addition of Chekov to the team, and promises to train her well. She also asks if Dara was willing to join the team as she seemed to be able to "sense" how the battle was going as it was happening. Kirk asks Dara (now in a red Starfleet uniform (with pants)), who agrees. The redskirts minus Chekov beam up. Chekov reports for the second beam out, where Kirk informs him he's been added to their tactical team as requested. They beam out and are returned back to their original bodies.

Tag: Morning. The tactical team share a suite on the Enterprise to maintain team dynamics. The ruin chime rings and Davison pulls out a red mini dress for the new recruit before opening the door. Chekov is there reporting for duty, but the redskirts have no idea who he is.

"I'm Chekov."
"Chekov was a woman."
"For a day or so, yes...."

Davison, not pleased at this turn of events, continues to hold up the mini dress.

"I...already have a uniform."
"We're known as the Redskirts. This is our uniform. And now it's yours if you want on the team."

Dara comes out in her mini dress, "it's so airy!"

Chekov takes the uniform, as Davison says "One sec" and leaves frame. She comes back with a shaving razor.

"But I already have a razor."
"This one's for your legs."

Final shot: The red skirts team doing the Victory Walk towards the recreation room (to train) including a slightly red faced Chekov. Sulu runs up along side him. "They got you in the skirt, huh. I tried it myself, once. The girls loved it, the guys, not so much." He walks away.

Later episodes would show the humor isn't coming from Chekov In A Dress...in fact, no one really seems to care. In Starfleet, any one can wear any uniform, they just generally DON'T. Most of the humor comes from Chekov's own insecurities, first in the uniform, then as the only male on a team of women, then as an officer with a lower ranking commanding officer.

Episodes would have included a ton of Star Trek Phase II storylines as seen through the eyes of security forces, each character had a secret to be slowly revealed (or just hinted at) as the series went on (Beaumont was trans, Michaels thought she was unlovable, Davisons bravado came from a fear of letting her team down, Dara becoming homesick), and would end with Chekov eventually becoming head of security just in time to head off and confront Vger in The Motion Picture.
