I am willing to not only listen to all sides of an argument, but be critical of all sides in an argument. A friend jokingly tells me that I am aggressively middle of the road. I find that's a virtue. We all make our own truths, and I can only hope I make ones that are fair for everyone.

Sometimes, I need a reminder of that.

Ultimately, though, I find there's a need to accept that some values are better than others - I can't abide the wretched gender apartheid of Saudi Arabia, for example, any more than I would support slavery. It's certainly possible to intellectually appreciate all views, but that certainly shouldn't lead their acceptance. (And I'm not saying that's what you meant, I should emphasise)

That said, understanding what underlies the terrible hatreds of the world absolutely is useful.
