The more I think about it, the more a roadtrip back home is becoming a dangerous thing. Seattle isn't the problem. The Hill Country isn't the problem. It's all the red states in-between....
Tell me about it. I was half-considering flying into Detroit to catch up on my Canadian affairs, then taking Greyhound down through the wild west to San Francisco for our corporate retreat later in the year. But everywhere between Detroit and San Francisco doesn't look good for trans tourism these days. It's crazy that a couple years ago I might have gotten a few weird looks and had to deal with a handful of awkward personal questions, but now I fear being beaten or shot as a pervert or child molester. I know giving into that fear is only going to make the bigotry worse - as we know from the gay struggle of the past decade, being out of the closet and "unexpectedly" normal is the best way to combat ignorance - but this latest trend of bigotry is concerning. The conservative politicians and talking heads who've cynically stoked this fire ought to be ashamed of themselves. It's sickening.
