Best description I've seen of the political climates in the US and UK and a bunch of other places these days: "Post-Factual Democracy."

To be (sort of) fair, it's been that way for a while now, ne? Seems like politics has been fact-free in the US since Reagan's days, and the UK caught up somewhere around the turn of the century. Television can claim a good part of the honor, with sound bitss ruling, though the papers strive to surpass the vacuousness, breathlessly reporting on every burp emitted by "lovable buffoons" like Farage and Trump.
