Nope. I'm not. But in high school, they were one of the cliques that liked having me around despite not living the lifestyle. I've always appreciated that.

Never figured out why, but I figured it was just that I treated them well and didn't make fun of the black gothy everything. Them and the hair band punks.

But mostly the nerds. They were my people.

I think the principle of conscious self-examination comes into it, perhaps - they know they'll catch flack, but choose to be who they want to be. Difficult not to respect that. (On which note, if you do sometime venture over to SLU, one of the most insightful prominent posters there is bronxelf, who also seriously rocks unnatural hair colors)

I was always just of the Nerd tribe, even managing to finagle a new option in my school's "games" portfolio, beyond the usual unpleasantness of hockey and suchlike - a cross-country "run" (aka brisk walk), followed by the rest of the afternoon in the computer lab, ostensibly preparing for the Computer Science exam. But that's another story. ^_^
