You know what would be nice right now? Universal Healthcare so I could have my back checked out despite being currently unemployed and off insurance, worrying about hire to pay a $5000 hospital bill when I DID have insurance and...ow. There goes my back again.

I apologise for being a bunny of very little brain. When did this unemployment begin? Last I knew, you were at that well known developer of visual amusements. Do you at least have whatever the state offers by way of unemployment benefits?

Needless to say, I agree wholeheartedly. Even Obamacare is something of an improvement over what was, but it still leaves people tied up to private insurers, and having to shell out not insignificant amounts - when employed, a relative bargain versus what had been, but otherwise.. =:P Needless to say, in the UK, the more conservative minded sorts do everything they can to undermine the NHS, from chronic underfunding, always justified on the basis of seeking "efficiency", to outright privatisation on a piecemeal basis, again justified on the basis of the mythical efficiency of the private sector.

So, in America, there is very little full time employment anymore - it's all contract work. And in Washington State, it's illegal to hire a contractor for more than a year without hiring them. The solution? Lay off your employee for two months out of every year you work for them. This is my SIXTH layoff. It amounts to a vacation paid for by the state, but I'd give it up for full time employment.

As for a well known developer of visual amusements, that's just a paying hobby. My real job still keeps the lights on.
