Jemn: "I'm glad as a brown transgender person they decided to stay home because they were above all this. I'm sure as my already shaky rights are taken away, I'll find great comfort in that."

Or that about half just can't be arsed? Participation in US elections has long been risible, whether times are good or bad.

That said, I can have some sympathy for the idea that the concept of elected representatives isn't necessarily effective at such scale, particularly as the Republicans have drifted to such extremes - just look at their belief in compromise with the Obama administration, where even the lukewarm concept of ACA - as originally championed by Romney - was fought to the bitter end.
