Hee! Wow, that's some vintage technology. ^_^ I remember being absolutely thrilled to find a cheap cordless phone during one ski trip (Andorra, which has an unusual situation legally), and was probably quite Steven-like in my enthusiasm therefor. =:) Of course, it had its downsides, especially that the ringer wasn't really debounced or otherwise coded, so if it picked up a particularly noisy signal, like, say, my computer, it'd go blipping that bell occasionally. =:P But, it did work!
These days, I can make a call on my iPad in the bath, automagically hooking up to the iPhone a couple rooms away. ^_^ (Yes, there's Skype, but I've really cooled off it for call quality - too often, it'll degenerate into bad GSM-style burble briefly. Not a problem most of the time, but a real pain with interviews)
