Dec. 19th, 2016 12:16 amI'm getting the hint that I'm not welcome in certain parts of the United States.
I mean, I've always believed in the innate kindness of people, which is why I DO my cross-country trips, with little worry.
I may have been mistaken.

Date: 2016-12-19 06:48 pm (UTC)Of course there are violent transphobes and homophobes and xenophobes in the country, but I think there are just as many of those in the city (probably more, if you count the suburbs). I think most rural folks are just ignorant (not in a negative sense - just in the sense that they don't know any better). I see it as our responsibility, when we are traveling, to show them that it doesn't really matter what gender or sexuality or race or religion you are, good people is good people and bad people is bad people.
All of that said... I don't know if I could hold my shit together around people who voted Trump. Not voting I can deal with, but voting for that asshole is next level evil. Some aspects can be forgiven due to ignorance, like actually believing his malarkey that "the inner city" is some kind of warzone, but it's impossible to defend his sexual abuse and blatantly corrupt behavior around his businesses, his "university" and his "charity".
